There is no Satanic community. We’ll talk about what this means, and also answer some listener mail about artificial human companions, doctrines of superiority, and an anecdote about one Satanist’s conspiracy theorist co-worker.

Magister Bill M. here with Satansplain.
Many times I have been online, participating in some Satanism discussion forum, and somebody new will make an introduction and say something like, “Hi, everybody! I’m glad to be part of the Satanic community!” And most Satanists, like myself, will cringe a bit at this choice of words. That’s because this notion of a Satanic community is something that there seems to be some confusion about, and a few people over the past year or so have suggested I talk about it on Satansplain. So that’s what we’re going to do in the first half of this episode. I’m going to be talking about this and sharing some excerpts from an essay titled “The Myth of the Satanic Community”, an essay by Magus Peter H. Gilmore which you can find in the Satanic Scriptures as well as online at ChurchofSatan dot com.
In short, the Satanic Community is a myth. Now some people, when they hear this statement, will readily object. They’ll say, “Come on, Bill. How can you say that? I mean, here we are, a bunch of Satanists. We’re on a Satanism message board, talking about Satanism. We have BOOKS about Satanism, we have t-shirts. So that means there is a Satanic community, right?”
